Susan Jong, OD, FCOVD will be presenting to professionals on Friday, March 9th at 10:00 am on “How EYE See It”.
Susan Jong, OD, FCOVD, a life-long Louisianan, grew up in Lake Providence working in her family owned business. After undergraduate studies at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), she received her doctorate degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN in 1979 where a strong interest in vision therapy developed.
She chose to practice in Baton Rouge for two reasons: desire to be back in Louisiana and population size (not too small, not too large, just right). Because there were no practices in Baton Rouge that offered vision therapy or developmental vision, Dr. Jong took a leap of faith by opening her practice from scratch with one employee – herself! Today, Dr. Jong has the pleasure of working with highly trained staff members who, along with her, are dedicated to providing outstanding primary and specialty vision care.
Because of Dr. Jong’s passion for helping patients, exclusive assessments and therapies are continually implemented which draw patients from all of Louisiana plus the surrounding states. Currently, Dr. Jong is the only Board Certified Developmental Optometrist and Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) in Louisiana who also manages a vision therapy clinic.
Dr. Jong is an active member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), Optometry Association of Louisiana (OAL), COVD, Optometric Extension Program Foundation (OEPF) and NORA (Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association).
She currently serves as the COVD State Coordinator for both Louisiana and Mississippi. She has served as OAL President and Southeast Zone Chairman, Southwest Council of Optometry Secretary and Louisiana Trustee and Southeast Council of Optometry Liaison. Dr. Jong has also been honored as Louisiana Optometrist of the Year.
During her spare time, Dr. Jong enjoys reading, traveling and abiding by the motto of "learn something new every single day". She and her husband, David Pate, are the parents of four fantastic daughters who make life interesting and fun!
